How To Dread Your Hair
|
Dreads are a beautiful cultural symbol and it is no wonder you may want to know how to dread your hair. As for what dreadlocks actually are, they are simply matted hair. To have them done correctly your hair should be at least three inches. Although your hair will continue to grow while in dreads, it will seem as if it is growing at a slower rate. There are several different methods to use when creating natural dreadlocks. These include backcombing, twisting, brush rubbing, twist and rip, dread braiding, twist and pin, and neglect. It is absolutely possible to create dreads on your own by using any of these methods. One of the easiest methods to consider in how to dread your hair is the backcombing method. For you this you will need some residue free shampoo, a metal comb, dread wax, and rubber bands. Wash your hair with the shampoo and allow it to air dry. Using the comb, section your hair into one inch by one inch areas. The rubber bands can be used to hold these sections in place while you complete the rest of your hair. Beginning at the back of your head, take off the rubber bands and start teasing the hair towards your scalp. You only need to backcomb a half inch of your hair at a time. This stops loops from forming. The next step in how to dread your hair is to put a rubber band at the end of the part of your hair that you have just backcombed and one at the root. Put on a small dollop of wax and roll it in your palm. When you have completed all sections of your hair, you will have brand new dreadlocks. Shampooing is a must when you have dreadlocks. This should be done at least once a week but most people with dreads wash their heads at least every three days. Also be sure to use residue free shampoo when you wash your dreads. This is because dreads love to hold things that would ordinarily be brushed out with a hair brush. But you will not be brushing your dreads so you need to use special shampoo to keep things from collecting in them. |
